Bringing Italy Home

I noticed this sign on Catherine St in downtown Ottawa.

LaBottega Nicastro is of course part of a local Italian grocery chain.

The sign reminded me so much of the (more-)famous Italian food experience called Eataly. Here’s one of their stores in Milan:

The Italian group is opening their first Canadian store(s) in 2019.

  1. I know they are opening in Toronto, Hope we get one here in Ottawa. A Litle Italy location would be apropo.

  2. Good to keep in mind there are two Nicastro empires. Out of the original Nicastro store on Gladstone near Percy (now the Red Apron) arose the Bottega Nicastro in the market and, when the Gladstone location closed, the Merviale store. Meanwhile, a reported family rift spawned “Il Negozio” in Westboro and subsequently the Nicastro store at Bank and Third in the Glebe.

They’re all good stores although the Merivale location likely has the biggest selection of products at slightly lower prices.
